Gregory Rudgers has been a composer, conductor, band director, and instrumental music teacher for over thirty years. He has conducted bands, orchestras, jazz bands, and early in his career directed a 150 piece marching band. He has guest conducted over 100 honor bands throughout the Northeast. In 2003 he was honored as guest conductor of the famed Ithaca College Wind Ensemble in the world premier of his own transcription of Diez Melodias Vascas by Jesus Guridi.
Greg Rudgers holds degrees from Ithaca College, Elmira College, and was awarded a Fellowship for Advanced Study at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. He is a member of the New York State Music Association, the New York State School Band Director's Association, and a proud member of the trumpet section in the Ithaca Community Concert Band.
He has published over twenty five articles in professional journals. His music publications include works for band, string orchestra and solos and ensembles. He is currently published by Manhattan Beach Music, Carl Fischer, and Grand Mesa Music.
Greg Rudgers is a rare combination of professional composer and experienced music educator. His work with young people as both a teacher and conductor gives him a unique perspective which gives his music both pegagogical and artistic value. And, while he enjoys the quiet introspective life of a composer, he also looks forward to any opportunity to work with young musicians.
Several commissions and collaborations have resulted in significant additions to the Concert Band/Wind Ensemble literature, most notably, "The Masks" a transcription of an orchestral suite by Ronald Lo Presti in collaboration with the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York and Carl Fischer Publications.
